We had a really great first week, getting to know each other and our classroom. Most of our our activities for this week were based around the idea of getting to know each other. We also did our first work to do with our Ancient Egyptian theme. With Mrs Walker for geography we created our own maps of Africa and marked Egypt and the countries surrounding it. We enjoyed this as we used collage materials to create and label our maps. These will go onto our Ancient Egypt display next week as a starting point for our learning this term.
On Friday afternoon we created some fabulous Ancient Egyptian inspired art. We discussed what image came to mind when we thought of Egypt and we came up with the pyramids (and mummies). We looked at pictures of pyramids at sunset and then created out own art work.
Firstly we created a sunset skyline using red, orange and yellow paints. We watered it down ourselves to make it more like a colour wash and were able to blend the colours into each other to create an effective background.
After these had dried we then added the pyramid silhouettes using either black paper or black paint. Some of us even had a go at creating camels and palm trees for our art work.
Some of our finished work hanging on display. |
Our Egyptian cartouches created during the class swap at the end of last year. We wrote our name using hieroglyphics. |
At the minute all our 'Pyramids at sunset' art work is hanging in our classroom so next time you are in, please take a look.
