Week 2

Over the first two weeks of the new school term we have been getting into our Asia topic. We have been using atlases to locate Asia and some of the different countries that make up this continent. We have looked at photos of life in an Indian village in order to see what they tell us about life and culture.

Front CoverIn literacy we are enjoying reading Rickshaw girl about Naima, a girl who lives in Bangladesh. We have been making great predictions as we read the story and have enjoyed discussing how these change as the story continues. We will finish reading the story next week and then get into writing our own story in another culture, magpieing ideas from this text.

In response to the story we have been starting part of our art work for this term which is looking at Alpana paintings. We have compared these with rangoli artwork.

As our class book we are really enjoying reading Grandpa Chatterji. We are discussing cultural similarities and differences and really enjoying the story.

Homework for week 2:
There is a competition run by the school council to mark next week's 'National Breakfast Week'. The task is to photograph a healthy breakfast in an artistic way. The children have looked at examples and we have discussed this in school. Entries should be handed in by Thursday 24th January.
